Personal Knowledge Management (here or here)

It works just like a wiki (wikipedia).

For example you work as an application support. Every day your tends to solve people problem which most often never documented any where. So, you can log those problems together with its resolution in your PKM. You can have several PKM differentiate by topic or subject. You can share this among colleagues and update it together.

In MS Word, you can …
- Use Style to organize subject in hierarchical structure.
- Use heading 1 to 4 (don't use too many level - simplify).
- MS Word already provide shortcut for those heading (alt+1, alt+2, …)

- View as normal. So it will looks like a long paper instead of pages.
- Activate/ View Document Map (view » Document Map).
- It will appear in the left side, summarizing your heading structure

- you can click in there to jump to certain subject
- you can have a glimpse how your knowledge are organized

Rate: 3/5

Almost like MS Word, it suppose to used as note-taking (detail).
Our notes are organized hierarchical structure:

- Notebook (e.g. My Notebook)
- Folder (e.g. Projects)
- Section (e.g. Project A, Project B)
- Pages (e.g. where we put our notes for each project)
- Sub pages (e.g. small pages as supplement)

Features:

- Type or jot down our text anywhere in the pages.
- Easy copy & paste from various source (office docs, web, etc.)
- Screen clipping (like print screen but a lot more flexible)
- Share our notes
- Password protection

- Some predefine template & format
- Fast search your notes

Its convenience to collect and organize our notes on day to day jobs.
Especially if there is handwriting recognition :P .. but keyboard & mouse work just fine.

Something that I don't really like:
- Not all word formatting are in there (e.g. change case)
- pasting table from Onenote to word or excel still need some work to reformatting.

One freeware with 'almost' similar function is EVERNOTE (
www.evernote.com).

Had tried this approach for couple weeks. So far it works well with me.
This method quite famous in blogsphere.
- Basically we clear out things to do from our head. List them down.
- group them by context (how and or where you going to do it,
e.g. office, home, on-the-way, internet, etc.)
- group it also by category (personal, business, finance, family).
- assign action date (so forget it until it should be executed)
- get discipline to execute what fall on a date
- Review in regular.
For more detail but still in brief (here).
Its workflow (here)

They are one good freeware outside (ThinkingRock) and some available for mac as well but now I decide to maintain my list just in Excel, it give more flexibility for me.

Some pitfalls on the system (here and here).

Had found in book in Kinokuniya PIM2, last time there's only 2 copies available.

35 Kisah Zen untuk Menyederhanakan Masalah Hidup

ISBN 979-20-8197-6

Benih pendidikan.
